Recording an investment

Closing a deal records the round terms and creates the portfolio position in one form.

A deal becomes an investment the moment it reaches Closed. Rather than re-entering the company somewhere else, you fill one form with the round’s terms; Investryx closes the deal, creates the portfolio position and starts feeding Portfolio, Performance and LP reporting from it.

When the form opens

  • Drag the deal card to Closed on the pipeline board, or choose Closed under Move to stage… on a phone.
  • Or open the deal’s company and select Record investment on the deal card.

Either way the Record investment — Acme Robotics dialog opens. The deal is not moved to Closed until you complete it; cancelling leaves the deal where it was.

You need at least one fund on your plan to record an investment, because every position belongs to a fund.

Fill in the round

The form is pre-filled from the deal terms where possible.

Deal

  • Fund (required) — the vehicle making the investment. Defaults to your fund in its investing period.
  • Investment date (required) — defaults to the deal’s target close date or today.
  • Round — Pre-seed, Seed, Seed extension, Series A, Series B, Series C or Bridge.
  • Instrument — Equity round, SAFE, Convertible Note, Priced round, Bridge or Extension.

Economics

  • Amount invested ($M) (required) — for example 1.5 for $1.5M.
  • Pre-money ($M), or Valuation cap ($M) when the instrument is a SAFE or a convertible note.
  • Ownership (%) — left blank, it is calculated as amount ÷ (valuation + amount) and shown as “Calculated: 8.2% post-money”. Type a value to override it; the hint then reads “Overridden manually”.
  • Security — Preferred, Common, SAFE, Convertible Note or Warrant.
  • Discount rate (%) — appears only for SAFEs and convertible notes.

Terms & role

  • Our role — Lead, Co-lead or Participant.
  • Board — None, Observer or Board seat.
  • Pro-rata rights — a switch, on by default.
  • Co-investors — free text, for example “two angels and a seed fund”.

Select Close deal & add to portfolio.

What happens next

  • The deal moves to Closed and its card shows In portfolio.
  • A position appears on Portfolio with the invested amount, ownership, first-invested date and the fund.
  • The round is stored as the position’s Initial investment entry, which you can edit later from the position’s round history.
  • Performance picks up the cost and mark in the fund’s TVPI curve and capital-deployed chart.

Editing the initial terms later

Open the position on Portfolio, find the initial round in Round & follow-on history and select Edit this entry. The same form opens as Edit investment, with an extra Current position block (current value, realised amount, status). Changes flow through to Portfolio, Performance and LP reporting.
